these, they can provide various damage-increasing buffs (Grace of Air
Totem, Windfury Totem, and Strength of Earth Totem), help their group
with top-level utility (Tremor Totem, Poison Cleansing Totem), or help
with group’s sustain and longevity (Mana Tide Totem, Stoneskin Totem,

shortest cooldown of just 6 seconds), Purge that removes magic effects
from the Target (this is great for both PvE and PvP as it can be used to
dispell buffs and other powerful magic-based effects), and Frost Shock
that can be used to permanently slow an enemy (Frost Shock’s slow effect
is longer than its cooldown). If there is one thing that slows Resto
Shamans down, it is their low sustain. They can run out of mana very
quickly if they don’t manage it properly (downranking spells,
understanding how mana regeneration works, and stocking up on
consumables is necessary when rolling a Resto Shaman).
Restoration Shamans are, by far, the most welcomed healers on the
horde side and the fact that Totem buffs only affect the Shaman’s main
group makes them even more popular in Raids (each group needs a Shaman
because everyone wants those buffs and utility).

Retribution Paladin is one of, if not the most iconic specialization of World of Warcraft. This Holy Warrior judges his enemies in battle and burns them with holy fire if he finds them guilty (and he most often does). Moreover, he brings a wide range of support, buff, and utility spells to the table – Blessings, Auras, and Lay on Hands, to name a few. Paladin is a hybrid Class, which makes him much more flexible than
most other Classes. Ret works quite well as an off-Healer and can
off-Tank if he swaps his Two-Hander for a 1-Handed Weapon and Shield (he
does not have a Taunt, however, which can be problematic). If you want
to find a permanent Raid group as a Ret, you have to be flexible and
embrace the role of a support player. To be at least marginally
competitive, as a PvE Retribution, you have to grab every advantage you
can get – stock on Consumables, use your brain, make use of the
Engineering gadgets, and support Healers when needed (in other words –
make yourself as useful as possible and, in time, you will become
irreplaceable).

There is only one profession that makes a real impact in Raids and it is Engineering (Alchemy is also a decent option, but you can buy Flasks, Elixirs, and Potions from other players, which makes it much less impactful). It gives you access to powerful explosives that increase your AoE and Single-Target DPS (and as a Paladin, you have to take every advantage you can get). On top of that, it lets you create and use Gnomish Battle Chicken Trinket that summons a Guardian Chicken that fights at your side and has a chance on hit to cast a “Battle Squawk” which boosts Melee attack speed of all Party members by 5%, making it a must-have in every competitive group. The fact that Engineering is also considered the best PvP profession is an added benefit to its power in a PvE environment.
