This was all done without Ironmace managements knowledge, however, so the GoFundMe was taken down and the money refunded to players, but it sure does show the lengths fans will go to Dark And Darker Gold keep this game alive.
The Dark and Darker copyright controversy is a strange one. The devs, many of whom are former Nexon employees, were accused of stealing assets from a cancelled project by their previous employer.
Despite denying the allegations of theft, the game was consequently removed from Steam. This is a convoluted situation which, if the allegations turn out to be true, could result in developer Ironmace facing massive penalties. However, the story has now taken its weirdest twist yet.
It seems while Ironmace was in the process of providing evidence to mount its own case, one employee took matters into their own hands and started a GoFundMe page. As spotted by PC Gamer, over on the Dark and Darkers Discord, an admin named Luci published a post talking about how much stress the team has been under due to the accusations levied by Nexon.
The post claims that Nexon is simply using its financial superiority to bleed Ironmace dry. The post also contains a GoFundMe link so that fans could contribute to the studios legal fees. The page reportedly raised over $46,000 in less than an hour.
However, it appears that the Ironmace management wasnt a part of this, and the GoFundMe page was started by an employee acting on their own. The page was taken down, and another admin named Graysun confirmed that while the page was legitimate, it was published without approval due to a passionate member of the team taking matters into cheap Dark And Darker Gold his own hands.
